This park boasts more than 100 glaciers covering a tenth of its territory.
Officially established in 1935, it is shared by the provinces of Sondrio, Bolzano, Brescia and Trento (Pejo and Val di Rabbi).
Over the years the surface has become larger and larger, from 953 to 1,346 sq km today, with a consequent increase in refuges, visitor centers and presence of animals.
This area is the realm of the eagle (symbol of the park), the marmot (6-7 thousand units) and of course the chamois, the deer, the roe deer and the ibex.
The latter was reintroduced in 1968 and is probably the most easily spotted species, due to its peaceful nature, if visitors are willing to reach the most inaccessible areas where it lives in flocks.
